Abstract
In
knowledge based economies, higher education and institution plays a crucial and
vital role in sustaining the economic growth and development of a nation. As
the economy of a country and its higher education system are closely connected
within each other, the development of either one of these party boosts the
other, too, in the sense that they are complement with one another. Looking
forwards into logistics industry in Malaysia, it can be said as one of the
essential areas of business activity to deal with. It is because in the past,
the advantages of having an effective distribution system are not sensitive by
most of the companies and thus has not given sufficient priority to the
development of effective distribution strategies. Consequently, this study is
driven by the following objectives that are to examine the issues arise in
logistics industries in Malaysia and the importance of promoting the university
and industry collaboration towards the logistics research centre of excellence
in order to support the growth and development of logistics industries in
Malaysia. Just because of several defects occur within the sector, the
interaction between industry and university research centre is important to
rectify such weaknesses. The method used for this conceptual paper is by
reviewing the related literature. The findings of this paper would provide
insights for the logistics industry that joint collaboration between the
interactions with logistics research centre of excellence can be a key
contributor to their growth and development.
